Letter to author After by Amy Efaw

Dear Amy Efaw, Hello my name is Angela and I have just finished reading your novel After. I am writeing you this letter to give you my thoughts and or feelings about the book. My first thought is that it was a very good reading expierience. From the moment I started reading it kept me page turning. The more I read the harder it was to put down. Once I got to the middle I really was eager to keep going. Usually I dont read to often but when I do I would stop and never return. I have several un-finished books around my house. But this one really kept my attention I was done in no time. But there is one thing I didnt like about it. Once I got towards the end things started moving alot faster. And what I mean by that is I felt the ending was rushed. Once I finished it completely I was upset and very disappointed. It didn't end very good,I really was not satisfied it just endedout of no where. I strongly feel this book could have used another chapter or two. It really could have told what happen to her and how her life ended up being. Did she return to her mother? Or did she ever go to college or continue her soccer playing? It just left you guessing and clueless. But outside of that I really enjoyed reading it and would still recommend anyone to read it. Good luck on future reading!!! Thank you Angela

What Caused Major Change In Charactor After By Amy Efaw

Hello everyone. I have finished reading After. It really wasn't hard to do considering it sucked me right in and kept me wondering and interested. Although I really didn't like the way it ended. I'm not going into detail about it because some of us are still reading and I don't know if you have finished yet. This blog is about what caused a major change in the charactor. The main charactor is Devon Davenport and I think not having her mom around much caused her to do what she did, she panicked and didn't have anyone around to talk to. She was in denial the whole way through. She changed by worry and guilt. Once she was in jail she finally realized what she did was wrong and she was the type of girl who hated to make mistakes and when she does she tries to do everything she can to correct them. When she finally came out of denial and saw what she had done was a mistake she was ready to take responsibility for her actions and any punishment that followsw. That's why I don't like how it ended it's hard to explain without telling you but Ican tell you it just ends in the middle of nowhere and kinda leaves you hanging and Ireally got a litle disappointed. But outside of the ending it was a rally good book, but could have used another chapter or two. I would still reommend you to read it.

After by: Amy Efaw

Hello everybody. I am now reading After. I am going to try to give you a review without telling you to much considering I am already half way through and it has only been a week or so. The book begins with the main charactor Devon and her mom Jennifer Davenport. Devon has appeared to miss school one day and her mom is surprisingly excited because she works graveyard and doesnt have much time with her. Well mom seems interested on why Devon actually stayed home because she is the type of kid whom never misses, honor student and star soccer player. So mom suspects something is wrong and Devon just isn't with it and blows her off as she doesn't feel good. Mom goes into how her day at work was, so Devon is listening but not paying attention. She says on her way home she noticed police sirens and red lights everywhere behind the apartment building and asked a detective"whats going on"? He gave minor details and she was shocked and overwhelmed at his response. Devon still not with it. A few moments later a knock on the door the detective from earlier was standing there. Jennifer, the flirt that she is, asks if she can help him in a flirty kind of way. The detective replies just want to ask a few questions about last night. She replies, she heard or knows nothing because she works nights but proceeds into telling him Devon was home all night and morning and possibly could help. And then the story begins. Tthat was the first chapter a basic review I dont want to ruin anything for anybody so you will just have to read it. I would strongly recommend it to anyone. It instantly grabs you from the begining and keeps you page turning. And I definetly would not change any element of this story. It's a must read book!!!!!!!

main charactor praise or criticism

Hannah Baker being the main charactor of Thirteen Reasons Why deserves criticism. I feel that way because she brought alot of things upon herself. She could have talked to some of the people she is blaming for her suicide and told them their faults. Or even spoke with a school or professional counsler. There were other options than suicide. School kids bullying you really is not a reason to kill yourself. I can see maybe moving or changeing schools but even then you are running from your problems. I think Hannah's problem was allowing them to spread rumors about her and treating her the way they did. She never stood up for herself or said they were lies. She allowed them to continue on into more bigger issues. I understand moving to a new city or school is not easy but it is really what you make of it. Hannah was acting like nothing was wrong and never spoke out caused alot of her problems. All of the rumors, guilt, and blame could have been prevented if Hannah would of handled things differently. Moving to a new school may have caused a major change which could have contributed to a new reputation and caused rumors. I dont agree with alot of the different things that happen to her, I just dont feel suicide was a very thought through decision. For instance the peeping tom,or Courtney pretending to be friends, or grabbing her butt those were not appropriate but could of been dealt with differently. I just dont feel she should put the blame on so many other people, when alot was her own fault. So I dont feel she should be praised at all, criticism is needed.

What Emotions Did The Text Stir Up Within Me

Some of the emotions I felt while reading this novel are personally felt. While growing up in school I watched kids pick on or make fun of other kids that were less fortunate and I really felt bad for them but there was nothing I felt I could do. I found myself trying to be friends with a few of them but really inside I knew I was only doing it to try to make there days a little more comfortable. Giving them someone to vent out to. I knew it was wrong to pretend but it felt right at the time. Just like Courtney did with Hannah in Thirteen Reasons Why. Pretending to be someones friend can obviously do more harm than good. Another example is my older brother was also picked on as a kid and once again I couldn't really help them being older kids and all. He also kept it all hidden inside until eventually gave up. Not like Hannah commiting suicide, but quitting school as soon as he could. So I felt his hurt and embarassment as well. I tried to talk to him but he would not open up to anyone. So I know personally what it is like to everything built up inside until you just give up. Finally, when I was in middle school I had a close friend that had some of the similar rumors spread about her and watching her break down took an emotional toll on me as well. All I could do is listen and offer a shoulder to cry on. Then she eventually moved away and I never saw her again. That being said I found this novel a very good choice because I could relate.

Thirteeen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

I personally feel the significance of the title came from an experience Jay Asher had himself or someone he knew. My reason being I haven't done much reading in my life ,but the reading i have done the books had a personal or like situation to the author. I believe authors do choose their titles for a specific reason. From some information I found in the book " Thirteen Reasons Why" Jay Asher did have a personal reasoning when he chose this title. Jay originally got his idea from visiting a museum which was an audiotour. An audiotour being , you walk around with a cassette plkayer what u saw was being explained to you. That being years before begining the book. Even more so ,a close relative attempting suicide at a similar age as the main charactor Hannah. She survived but couldn't speak about one specific reason why without bringing up something prior or after that caused her attempt. Both ideas together brought "Thirteen Reasons Why". Also in the start of this book the main charactor was originally named Anna Baker, but Jay found that other books about suicidal female charactors were also named Anna. So to steer away from that he altered the name to Hannah. When figureing out how many stories there were going to behe chose "Thirteen Reasons Why" for the last name being Baker and a bakers dozen being thirteen. And thats how it came about. At the book selling the original title was "Bakers Dozen :The Autobiography of Hannah Baker". Jay Asher had a very clever and unique idea for this novel.

week 3: Kinds of reading

The kinds of reading i like to do is slim to none. I might pick up a book and atempt to read it but never get farther than a couple chapters or pages. The reason for that being i either dont have time or it makes me tired and does not intrest me. I find myself reading the newspaper every once in a while or periodically picking up a magazine. I guess reading just is not for me , i find it rather boring. It is time consumeing and time is not something i have alot of these days. On the other hand facebook and text messageing is something i read on an almost every day basis. Finally i would not mind becoming a more frequent reader if something intrest me and i find spare time but until then reading is not a choice hobby for me.
